Learning That Leads

Empower students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials to tackle real-world climate challenges.

A High-Impact Opportunity for Schools and Districts

The Seal of Climate Literacy elevates the learning already happening in your classrooms – from science and social studies to humanities and CTE. It gives students a clear goal to work toward and a meaningful way to connect their learning to real-world impact, increasing engagement across disciplines.

By offering the Seal, your school or district signals a commitment to innovative, student-centered climate education. It positions you as a leader preparing graduates not just to succeed academically, but to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Students who earn the Seal of Climate Literacy graduate with:

  • A recognized credential on their diploma and transcript

  • Confidence applying classroom learning to real-world challenges

  • Leadership experience through community-based climate action

  • Stronger postsecondary readiness for college, careers, and civic engagement

  • Clearer pathways into climate-aligned and sustainability-related fields

what students gain

Group of people standing in a forest clearing during the daytime, some listening to a person speaking while others take notes, surrounded by tall trees and greenery.

A green grassy hill with two cows grazing, large white wind turbines, blue sky with fluffy clouds.

Growth in green hiring is almost 2x faster than growth in the share of workers with green skills (7.7% vs 4.3%)

Across every sector, employers are seeking climate-literate workers with both technical knowledge and essential skills. Climate change is reshaping the workforce, and students need preparation that reflects that reality.

Schools that offer the Seal are helping students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for high-demand, well-paying careers, while also strengthening pathways into higher education, apprenticeships, and community leadership.

Implementing the Seal of Climate Literacy is flexible, achievable, and designed to build on what schools already do well. Most schools are able to complete Steps 1-5 within the first year, even if on a pilot or small scale.

  1. Commit: District or school opts in to conferring the Seal (where policy allows).

  2. Align: Identify existing courses and select climate literacy principles.

  3. Prepare: Engage educators and community partners to support student projects.

  4. Launch: Share requirements with students and families and begin advising.

  5. Recognize: Review student portfolios and award the Seal at graduation.

You don’t have to start from scratch. Check out the Playbook that builds from the learnings of first year implementers.
